Who We Are

Latinitas was founded in Austin, TX in 2002. Latinitas provides media and technology programs for young Latinas throughout Central Texas in Austin, Round Rock, San Marcos and San Antonio, TX.

  • Laura Donnelly is the founder/CEO of Latinitas. She has been a journalist, book publicist and documentary filmmaker. She majored in English and minored in Computer Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

  • Vicky Garza is an experienced communications professional and journalist who has covered business and politics in Texas. She has a BBA in Marketing from the University of Miami and an MBA from St. Edward’s University.

  • Sylvia Butanda manages Latinitas’ media and technology enrichment programs for girls in Austin. Originally from Brownsville, TX, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's in Journalism.

  • While serving as Latinitas Austin’s Volunteer Coordinator for two years, Brisieda Diaz has also gained experience in communications, administration, and management. She is an Austin native and a St. Edward's University alum.

  • Daniela Lastra is Latinitas Austin’s Administrative Assistant. She has a Bachelor’s in English American Literature from the University of Texas–El Paso and has taken some graduate courses in Writing and Rhetoric Studies.

  • Ari Gonzalez will graduate May 2018 from St. Edward's University with a degree in Business Administration. Born and raised in El Paso, Ari started as an intern at Latinitas Austin and was promoted to social media associate.

  • Isis Portillo has been in the communications field since 1955. The El Paso native is an advocate for women and Latinos and has shown that support through her career. Portillo is a University of Texas–El Paso alumna.

  • Itzel Barraza started as an intern and now manages events, camps, workshops and afterschool clubs. Barraza is an UT-El Paso alumna and graduated with a degree in Anthropology with a minor in Latin American and Border Studies.

  • Briana Castrejon supervises outreach interns, facilitates workshops and provides outreach around the community. After graduating from UT-El Paso with a degree in Social Work, she was offered a position at Latinitas.

  • Veronica Martinez joined Latinitas in 2016 as a volunteer and in 2017 as an intern. She graduated from University of Texas–El Paso with a degree in Women and Gender Studies and hopes to become a media producer.
