Don’t Miss Party For Chica Power!
These are exciting and transitional times! More women hold leadership positions in state legislatures across the country than at any other time in history. With the women’s march, the growth of the #metoo movement and the election of one of the largest congressional classes of women – the future is certainly looking female and with 80% of Austin ISD’s incoming kindergarten identifying as Hispanic last, this and next year – that female in Austin is Latina.
Latinitas has served over 30,000 girls with clubs, camps, workshops, and conferences graduating 50% more STEM majors than the national average. But, something else is happening – an amazing byproduct of culturally relevant programming, lessons, and mentors. Latinitas is not just creating producers and innovators, but the next generation of Latinas and other leaders of color in Austin.
We do this with your support and hope you can join us for our annual Party for Chica Power on April 27th at the Center For Social Innovation event space for a night of support and celebration.
Latinitas puts its own twist on the traditional gala with a kérmes-themed Mexican festival. You can expect delicious churros from Churro Co. esquites (corn in a cup), tacos and ceviche from Licha’s Cantina and infused aguas frescas.
Plus live music by Cecilia & The Broken Hearts, and kérmes entertainment like the famous cakewalk, bottle ring toss, and high-stakes Loteria.
Be sure to catch the live auction portion of the night which offers some exciting packages.
The night also honors a Latinitas alumna applying her experience in the community with our annual Chica Power Award. So dress festive (whatever that means to you!) and join us for a night of fun, culture and a celebration of chica empowerment!
