Latinitas Austin, Texas Summer Camp Sessions 2010:

June 21-25 - Latinitas Hollywood Camp – Austin has been described as the “Third Coast” in movie-making. Latinitas invites girls in grades 6-8th for a week of filmmaking, talk show production, TV show creation, celebrity blogging, show development and more. Guest speakers will include local actors, producers, directors and others who work in the TV or film business in Austin. Camp includes lessons in web and graphic design, photography, radio, media literacy in addition to film and video production.

June 28 – July 2 - Goaaal! Latinitas Sports Journalism Camp – Sports reporters get to go to the Olympics and the Super bowl! Girls in grades 6-8th learn the ropes of covering sporting events, interviewing athletes, producing health and wellness public service announcements and more. Girls will meet Austin Toros basketball players, Aztex soccer team members and other UT athletes during camp. Camp includes lessons in web and graphic design, writing, editing, photography, video and radio production, media literacy, field trips, guest speakers and more!

July 12 – 16 - Latinitas Media Arts Camp – This week long camp touches upon everything that is Latinitas including lessons in web and graphic design, writing, editing, photography, video and radio production, media literacy, as well as cultural arts projects, guest speakers and field trips. This camp is open to one group of 4-5th graders and another of 6-8th graders.

July 19 – 23 Latinitas Alma Camp (Overnight) – For the first time Latinitas is offering an overnight camp in a partnership with the 22 acres of Alma de Mujer, a woman’s retreat in Northwest Austin. Camp is geared towards girls in 7th, 8th and 9th grades. This week long camp touches upon everything that is Latinitas including lessons in web and graphic design, writing, editing, photography, video and radio production, media literacy, as well as painting, drawing, hiking, leadership development, indigenous and feminist history and more. Food and lodging provided.

Latinitas summer day camps go from 10am to 5pm and costs $150 per week. Overnight camp costs $250 per girl. Scholarships available. You can register in person at Latinitas offices, Tues-Fri 9:30 - 4:30 pm or Saturday May 1, 2010 from 10am to 2pm. July 5-9 – Media Divas Summer Camp - This summer, girls in grades 4-8th are invited to find their creative expression outlet by producing original media arts projects in the Latinitas Media Divas Summer Camp. In this week-long day camp program, girls will explore multimedia arts such as photography, writing, art, design, radio production and film-making. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Latinitas El Paso Headquarters (1359 Lomaland, Gecko Room; El Paso, TX). The cost for the week-long camp is $75 which covers supplies. July 19-23 - Teen Media Academy - Calling all aspiring female journalists and media producers. Latinitas is hosting a week-long Summer Camp for high school girls in grades 9-12th with intensive instruction from media producers. As part of the camp, your work will be published on TeenLatinitas.com. During the camp, you will complete an article, photo essay, blog, audio podcast and a video broadcast. The cost for the week-long camp is $75 which covers supplies. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Latinitas El Paso Headquarters (1359 Lomaland, Gecko Room; El Paso, TX).
