KAYAK-A-THON

Saturday, May 31st from 9am-11am
Town Lake

Kayak for a good cause. Enjoy a fun summer morning on the lake with free kayaking to help expose Latinitas to new adventures. Rowing enthusiasts are invited to join us for our annual Kayak-a-thon hosted by the Texas Rowing Center. This rowing trip is a reward for the hard work young girls contribute toward producing original media projects throughout the school year in Club Latinitas. In line with Latinitas' mission of helping support healthy minds and bodies among young Latinas, this outdoor challenge helps girls develop a positive self-concept and confidence. In addition, this educational experience brings girls and volunteers together for a morning of sharing and having fun. Volunteer rowers are wanted to ride in boats with girl and act as safety guides. To sign up, email laura@latinitasmaga zine.org. The trip will begin at the Texas Rowing Center (1541 W. Cesar Chavez - across the street from Austin High Parking Lot). For directions, visit: http://www.texasrow ingcenter. com

Share your talents to introduce young girls to career opportunities. We are currently seeking volunteers who are Latina professionals or college students with careers in news, writing, photography, web design, graphic design, radio or video production. Our camps are aimed at helping Latina girls express themselves through media and helping them build their confidence, cultural pride, self-esteem and resiliency to at-risk behavior. Our guest speaker series helps introduce Hispanic girls to successful role models, educational opportunities, career options and new possibilities. If you would be interested in serving as a guest speaker, please email Alicia at latinitasaly@ yahoo.com. Feel free to share this volunteer opportunity with friends and colleagues that you think may be interested in sharing their experience with our girls.
