This summer, JCPenney partnered with Latin Grammy–winning artist Joaquina to launch a limited-edition back-to-school collection called “Be Electric.” The line blends the singer-songwriter’s bilingual heritage, 90s influences, and personal story into a bold collection designed to celebrate individuality and cultural pride.
Inspiration Behind the Collection
The “Be Electric” line draws from Joaquina’s own teenage years, mixing elements of English and Spanish in both design and lyrics featured on the clothing. The collection includes lace-knit and mesh-plaid dresses, flared jeans, pleated denim skirts, cropped baby tees, and graphic hoodies printed with Joaquina’s lyrics. Details like ribbon trims and lightning bolt motifs add a nostalgic 90s grunge feel while keeping the pieces playful and modern.
In sharing the vision behind the collection, Joaquina said, “I poured my younger self into this collection—the girl who mixed Spanish and English. I hope these pieces feel like claiming identity and dressing for the life you dream of.”
The Miami Launch
The collection debuted on July 19 at a launch event at Dadeland Mall in Miami. The event featured a headlining performance by Joaquina and immersive spaces designed to reflect the personal, diary-inspired theme of the collection. Fans were invited to participate in activities such as journaling corners, friendship charm making, and makeup tutorials. A sweepstakes also gave several attendees the chance to meet Joaquina in a private setting and win funds to help support their personal dreams.
Availability
“Be Electric” is available in select JCPenney stores nationwide and online at jcp.com. The collection is especially aimed at young people who connect with bilingual and multicultural identities, offering styles that are both expressive and accessible.
A Cultural Statement
More than just clothing, Joaquina’s collaboration with JCPenney represents a broader movement in fashion to embrace authentic cultural storytelling. By combining music, heritage, and personal identity, the collection resonates with a new generation seeking to express who they are—both on stage and in everyday life
