The Chica Playlist: Galentine’s Edition

AUSTIN-The month of love can mean buying candy grams for your friends, having a class party at school or passing out Valentine’s Day cards to your classmates. However you celebrate, one thing’s for sure: quality time with friends who understand you the most. With our mission being to empower girls, we took the day of “ladies celebrating ladies” to Club Latinitas: Galentine’s Day.

Galentine’s Day was created by a fictional character, Leslie Knope of “Parks and Recreation.” In 2010, the show premiered its second season, which aired an episode titled “Galentine’s Day,” where Leslie treats her gal pals to a brunch of waffles and women empowerment.

“Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” Leslie said in the episode. “Ladies celebrating ladies.”

And thus, the unofficial holiday of Galentine’s Day was born.

We asked our chicas to write about their favorite songs on friendship, love, happiness and kindness.

Here are 10 tunes the chicas wanted to share:

1. Happier by Mashmello

“I like Happier because it’s kind of a sad song and it’s also really fun to listen to,” said Ariana.

2. Emoji by Brooklyn Queen

(This is my favorite song) because it is saying things that are caring. I love this because it is a good song,” said Silvia.

3. No by Meghan Trainor

“My favorite Valentine’s Day song is ‘No’ because it tells you that you don’t have to have a boyfriend all the time,” said I’Le.

4. Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran

“I like this song because it reminds me of the story of how my mom and dad fell in love,” said Maddie.

5. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

“Me hace sentir bien y feliz. Me recuerda de mi tia,” said Regina.

“It makes me feel good and happy. It reminds me of my aunt.”

6. Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez

10. Beautiful by Bazzi featuring Camila Cabello

“The song reminds me of my old house and my friends that lived there. We always played there with my sister,” said Isabella.
