The Summer I Turned Pretty is a romantic television series created by Jenny Han who is also the author of the book The Summer I Turned Pretty. The storyline and soundtrack are extremely appreciated by the audience as the show became extremely popular. The series follows a girl named Belly, who we find in a love triangle between two brothers, this spikes the interest of the audience immediately and is complimented by the perfect soundtrack, especially for those who are Swifties.

Season 2 is currently airing on Amazon Prime right now. It is the perfect time to rewatch and experience the epic soundtrack.

Here are the Top 5 Taylor Swift songs on The Summer I Turned Pretty Soundtrack

Cruel Summer – S1E1

“Cruel Summer” is my favorite Taylor Swift song from the album Lover. Released on August 23, 2019, the catchy melody of “Cruel Summer” is perfect for listening in car rides while screening out the lyrics with your friends or lovers. The song is a masterpiece that creates the vision of summer romance, cruel and intimate. The song added a perfect tone to The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 in setting the tone of the show of romance and sententious energy.

Standout Lyric:

“I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you

And I snuck in through the garden gate

Every night that summer just to seal my fate (oh)

And I screamed for whatever it’s worth

“I love you, ” ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?”

The Way I Loved You – S1E7

“The Way I Loved You” is about falling in love, and falling hard. The song is from the album Fearless by Taylor Swift which was released in 2008. The song speaks close to my heart. The lyrics are extremely heart-touching as it takes us back to the way we used to love someone. The song was the perfect addition to The Summer I Turned Pretty season 1 and sets the tone by showing the love between the characters. The song is played in the last episode of Season 1 where Belly is shown as lost on the dance floor as she waits for Jeremiah to show up.

Standout Lyric:

“I’m so in love that I acted insane

And that’s the way I loved you

Breaking down and coming undone

It’s a roller coaster kind of rush

And I never knew I could feel that much

And that’s the way I loved you…”

This Love – S1E7

“This Love”, another masterpiece by Taylor, invokes imagery and uses a sparkly tone when depicting the love that we feel throughout the song. The song is from Taylor’s fifth album 1989 which was released in 2014. The song is great, exploring the different kinds of love that we can feel with lines explaining that love can be many things. The re-recording was played in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 which was released on May 6, 2022. This is the first re-recorded track we’ve received from 1989, on a special request from the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The song is perfect to listen to during summertime and while laying on the beach.

Standout Lyric:

“This love is good

This love is bad

This love is alive back from the dead, oh, oh, oh

These hands had to let it go free, and

This love came back to me, oh, oh, oh

This love left a permanent mark

This love is glowing in the dark, oh, oh, oh…”

August – S2 Trailer

“August”, one of my favorite songs, played in the trailer of season 2. The song itself is perfect for listening during the start of summer or even at the beach. The lyrics correlate to the story as it’s about a girl dreaming about her summer love, and hoping he’ll stay even after the summer is over. It is on Taylor’s eighth album Folklore released on July 24, 2020. The song is perfect for a summer love story and evokes the feeling of love and nostalgia that the song creates while being played on The Summer I Turned Pretty. The song is featured in the trailer of season 2 and adds a positive air of mystery. [SPOILERS AHEAD] Season 1 captures two characters who are brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, who fall in love with the same girl, Belly. Belly liked Conrad and just when it finally looks like things might go their way, Season 1 ends, and the trailer and song leave you wondering what happened when the summer ended.

Standout Lyric:

“I remember thinkin’ I had you

But I can see us lost in the memory

August slipped away into a moment in time

‘Cause it was never mine…”

Back to December – S2 Trailer

“Back to December” is from Taylor’s third studio album, Speak Now which came out in 2010. The song is perfect for blasting the lyrics in a car as shown in the trailer for season 2. The music itself is a catchy tune that keeps playing in your head. It is about “Going back to December”, going back to the time that evoked the feeling again as the lyrics create imagery, a sense of love, and intimacy. Belly might want to go back to a happier time but the trailer states otherwise.

Standout Lyric:

“Then I think about summer, all the beautiful times

I watched you laughin’ from the passenger’s side

And realized I loved you in the fall

And then the cold came, the dark days

When fear crept into my mind

You gave me all your love and all I gave you was goodbye..”
